OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — One person is injured after a Friday afternoon shooting on a train near the Lake Merritt BART station in Oakland. The man shot was taken to Highland Hospital shortly before 2 p.m, according to BART spokesman Jim Allison.

The victim was shot multiple times around 1:25 p.m., according to BART police. The suspect ran out of the train and got off the Fruitvale station and is still at large.

The train where the shooting happened was on its way to Daly City. The victim is at the hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition.

The motive of the shooting is unknown at this time as police believe this was not a random attack. Police will review surveillance on the train as they investigate.

BART tweeted there were “major” delays in service on the Berryessa Line in the Daly City, Richmond, Berryessa and Dublin/Pleasanton directions.

In the meantime, AC Transit provided bus service between West Oakland, Lake Merritt and Fruitvale stations, which will be on Bus 14 route. Buses 18 and 88 for service between Lake Merritt and Oakland City Center at 12th Street.
