Consumers spend a ton at big-box stores but shopping small is also a great way to purchase unique gifts for family and friends.
People were out and about in Livermore Saturday, hitting up locally owned shops.
Lisa Jost said, “We want to support our local businesses. It’s important to do that in our community.”
Linda Vigil who works at Main Street Designs on First Street said shoppers had been in and out of the store all day.
“It’s been very busy, lots of people in so it’s been a great day,” she said.
Vigil stressed the importance of shopping small saying, “We wouldn’t be here without our customers.”
This year marked the ninth annual Small Business Saturday and the National Retail Federation is forecasting an increase in holiday shopping sales of 4.3 to 4.8 percent over last year.
Nationwide, shoppers are expected to spend as much as $720 billion this holiday season.
