Officials with the CHP Solano Area and Solano County DA will be hosting a media update Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to announce the arrest and charging of the suspect involved in last week’s Fairfield crash that claimed the life of CHP Officer Kirk Griess and the driver of another car.
According to CHP, around 9:01 a.m. Officer Griess stopped a Saturn— for unknown reasons— on the right shoulder of westbound I-80 near Manuel Campos Parkway.
A white Chevrolet pickup truck veered towards Griess’ direction, colliding into him and the Saturn.
Griess was 19-year veteran with CHP and a well respected member of his Vacaville community.
He also served his country as a U.S. Marine.
Griess left behind his wife Kari, two daughters Kadi and Kaci, and his son Kole.
The driver of the Saturn was identified as 49-year-old Jaime Bueza Manuel of Vallejo.
Check back for updates.
