Authorities say a 16-year-old Santa Rosa gang member was arrested on Sunday in connection with a shooting that left another person injured in Rohnert Park over the weekend.
According to officials, the 16-year-old, who was identified as a gang member by authorities based on his street name, shot the victim, an 18-year-old man, during a dispute with three other men when they tried to steal a backpack from the victim’s friend.
This all happened at a house party at a home in the 5000 block of Snyder Lane.
When the victim tried to stop the suspects from taking the backpack, the 16-year-old allegedly shot the victim in the leg.
The victim was able to positively identify the 16-year-old as the person who shot him.
The suspect was located with a loaded handgun inside a car in Santa Rosa later that evening. He was taken into custody.
The suspect has been charged with Robbery and Assault with a Firearm, among other charges.
Rohnert Park detectives are still trying to identify the other people who the suspect was with at the time of the robbery and shooting, as well as anyone else who attended the party.
Anyone there who has information about the shooting is asked to contact the Rohnert Park Police Department of Public Safety’s Investigations Bureau at 707-584-2630.
