A Newark little league team is dealing with a terrible loss just a few weeks into their season after their storage shed was burglarized.
A groundskeeper for the league stopped by the Ernie Silva Sports Complex in Newark on Thursday to find the lock on the league’s storage container broken.
The thieves made off with their ATV.
Coach Fess Santiago said it couldn’t have happened at a worse time.
“With the start of the games, we will now have to temporarily use our extra lawn mower,” Santiago said. “We have to take equipment to our different fields, which is gonna double the time of preparation for the field.”
A police report was filed and an officer visited the field to see what exactly happened.
Santiago believes the theft happened sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
“This hurts really bad,” he said.
The league is reviewing surveillance video from three cameras in the area.
“We’re hoping the community and the cameras can really help us out to find who did this crime,” Santiago said.
He says the ATV is registered with the DMV so if it’s tracked down it could be identified.
