The Westboro Baptist Church protested Tuesday morning at Rancho Romero Elementary School in Alamo.
Members of the church showed up at 8 a.m. at the school located at 180 Hemme Avenue. They left at 8:30 a.m.
The church, which is designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, is protesting transgender youth.
In their press release, the Westboro Baptist Church says they will “faithfully provoke their neighbors to obey God’s commands.”
The Westboro Baptist Church is infamous for picketing religious and secular groups they disagree with and for using vulgar signs. They’re known for their inflammatory anti-gay protests.
The ACLU is encouraging people to make donations to local organizations that serve trans youth in response to the protest.
In a statement, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District said their focus today is on student and staff safety.
