Witness describes crash that injured 8 people in Sunnyvale

Bay Area
Witness, Don Draper, describes the scene of the Sunnyvale accident

Don Draper, from San Jose, was driving to a friends house in Sunnyvale on Tuesday evening when he witnessed a driver crash into eight pedestrians in a crosswalk.

“I was stopped at this intersection waiting for the light to change and I saw this car come through going the other way very quickly and he, he drove into the crosswalk and hit several people there,” Draper said. “I saw several bodies flying through the air and one of them was this woman and I saw her right in front of me, uh, tilted upside down with her feet up in the air and she fell right in front of my car.”

Seeing this happened caused Draper to get out of his car to go after the suspect, identified as Isaiah Joel Peoples, who had crashed into a tree.

Draper says he began yelling at Peoples saying, “what are you doing, what do you think you’re doing?”

According to Draper, Peoples sat there repeating, ‘thank you, Jesus, thank you, Jesus.”

This is when Draper and several other witnesses called 911.

When speaking to detectives, Draper says he was unable to say whether Peoples had accelerated but there were no signs of him slowing down.

Draper says he has never seen anything like this before and it’s likely he won’t forget it.

The FBI is currently assisting in the investigation of the accident. Authorities believe Peoples intentionally crashed into the pedestrians.

Eight people have been injured but the status of their injuries is unknown at this time.
