You can now hire someone to wait in line at the DMV for you

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) - Tired of waiting in line at the DMV for hours?

If you live in the Bay Area, you can now hire someone to do it for you, and that person will notify you via text within 30 minutes of your number being called.

It's called "DMV Line Concierge Service," the newest offering by Oakland-based startup YoGov.

YoGov last made headlines when it launched a service selling DMV appointments for $19.99.

The DMV Line Concierge Service launched Monday and charges about $25 an hour for someone to stand in line for you.

The service works both outdoors for pre-check in before you're inside and indoors while you wait for your number to be called.

Officials say you must show up for the "midpoint" check-in where you need to show your documents and get an assigned number. But at that point, you can then hand over the number to YoGov concierge, who will take over and wait in line for you.

The service has a minimum book of 1.5 hours and a maximum of 4 hours.

It is only available in the following Bay Area DMV locations:

  • San Francisco
  • Daly City
  • San Mateo
  • Redwood City
  • Oakland Claremont
  • Oakland Coliseum
  • Santa Clara
  • San Jose
  • El Cerrito
  • Fremont
  • Hayward
  • Santa Teresa
  • Los Gatos

KRON4 did some digging to see how far out you'd have to book an appointment in advance for a Driver's License renewal.

It varied by location, but DMVs including San Francisco, San Jose, Hayward, Pittsburg, and Vallejo all were booked up until early October.

If you're looking to get a Real ID, available appointments were booked out even further.
