“Fire tornadoes” are popping up in the deadly wildfire burning in Shasta County known as the Carr Fire.
Flames swept through the communities of Shasta and Keswick before jumping the Sacramento River on Thursday and reaching Redding It’s a city of about 92,000 people and the largest in the region.
Two firefighters have died in the 45,000-acre fire burning near Redding.
Video posted to social media shows the fire tornadoes burning dangerously close to fire engines.
Fire officials say the fire whirl is fueled by strong winds.
