VALLEJO (BCN) — The Solano County coroner’s office has identified a motorcyclist who died Friday in a crash with a light pole in Vallejo as 39-year-old Michael Greer.

Greer, a Vallejo resident, was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on Couch Street and a 58-year-old woman was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage south on Couch Street around 9:50 a.m., Vallejo police Lt. Michael Nichelini said.

When the Mitsubishi driver started to turn left into the driveway of the Department of Motor Vehicles office at 200 Couch St., Greer veered to the right to avoid a collision, Nichelini said.

The motorcycle struck the east curb and a light pole on the east sidewalk, and Greer was not wearing a government-approved helmet, Nichelini said.

Vallejo firefighter/paramedic Anthony Shair-Ali said Greer was thrown 50 feet from the motorcycle.

Nichelini said the motorcyclist was apparently speeding prior to the crash. Greer was pronounced dead at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo.

A substance believed to be cocaine was found on Greer and blood tests will determine if he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, Nichelini said.
