SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say they have arrested a man suspected of robbing at least eight banks in Northern California.

The Press Democrat reports that Lake County sheriff’s officials say they arrested the 31-year-old Antioch man after a brief car chase Sunday morning.

The FBI dubbed the man the “Hefty Heister” based on security photos captured since December.

Booking records show that the man is being held at Lake County Jail without bail on an arrest warrant and several felonies.

Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Brooks said in a statement that deputies were tipped off to the man’s location and tried to pull him over, but the man sped off. He was stopped by a spike strip that deflated his tires.

A video shows the man running off, but deputies were able to corner him.
