Doctors encourage flu shots ahead of peak season

If you’ve been putting off the flu shot, now is the time to get it before the peak season hits.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications last winter.

The nation experienced a record-breaking 900,000 hospitalizations caused by the virus last season.

Doctors with John Muir Health told KRON4’s Gabe Slate, said even if you’re healthy you can die from the flu.

Doctor Robert Eidus said, ” Never too late to get flu shot, never too late to get flu shot.”

Eidus says every year he has patients express fear about getting sick from the flu shot.

“You can not get flu from the flu shot,” he stressed.

Eidus says to not have a repeat of last year’s flu season — or worse, everyone needs to get their shot.

“Fine if you don’t believe in it, but get it for the elderly and kids, to protect them,” he explained.
