(KRON) — A fire that was reported earlier near the UC Berkeley campus has been extinguished, according to a campus alert. The fire broke out at the 2400 block of Bowditch Street at Haste Street. UC Berkeley Police sent an earlier alert advising anyone in the building to evacuate to their Emergency Assembly Area.

No one was injured in the blaze, but four people were evacuated from the building’s top floor, according to the university. First responders are still on the scene conducting an investigation. People are being urged to stay clear of first responders. On scene responders and staff will share next actions, according to the most recent campus alert.
The fire damaged a historic hall owned by the university, according to university officials. Firefighters responded just before noon to Anna Head Alumnae Hall, which was built in 1927 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Crews extinguished the fire by 1:42 p.m. but flames and water caused damage to the hall. No other buildings were damaged. According to the university’s website, Anna Head Alumnae Hall was currently being used as a reception hall. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
