After 34 years, Gary Radnich is retiring from KRON4 News.

Since joining KRON4 in 1985, Radnich has brought Bay Area sports fans more than just the scores with his unique off-the-cuff style.

He’s been honored three times by the Associated Press for Best Sportscast in California and has been called “the biggest name in Bay Area broadcasting, sports or otherwise.”

His weekday KNBR Radio show has been top-rated since its 1992 debut.

Radnich grew up in San Jose, where he became an All-American basketball player at Branham High School.  He continued his career at both Brigham Young University and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

Radnich got his start in broadcasting at Las Vegas station KVVU-TV before moving back to the Bay Area to call Fresno State football and basketball play-by-play with the Oakland A’s Monty Moore for KMPH-TV. Radnich was also a sportscaster at KTXL-TV in Sacramento.

Before joining KRON4, Radnich was sports director at WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, where he helped the station develop the highest-rated local newscast in the market.  He also called play-by-play for Buckeye football broadcasts with legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes.
