In less than 24 hours, Highway 1 south of Big Sur will re-open.
It’s a stretch of road that was buried in 2017 by what Caltrans calls the largest slide ever in Big Sur.
On Tuesday, Caltrans District 5 tweeted, “John Madonna made great progress past week so final roadway striping and inspection by our crews is underway. As a result, #Hwy1 at Mud Creek sotuh of #BigSur will RE-OPEN tomorrow Weds, July 18 by 10am.”
The landslide dumped more than 6 million cubic yards of earth onto the roadway.
