PALO ALTO (KRON) — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday in a crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Palo Alto.

The motorcyclist appears to have been splitting lanes at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred, according to California Highway Patrol.

The CHP responded at 5:46 p.m. to a call of a motorcyclist down on the highway just north of Embarcadero Road.

The motorcyclist was driving fast in slow moving traffic when the motorcycle collided with the rear end of a vehicle, according to the CHP.

The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel.

The collision remains under investigation, but it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.
