FAIRFIELD (KRON) – A man and a woman were arrested after a probation search led to the discovery of thousands of pieces of potentially stolen mail on Wednesday, according to Fairfield police.

At 9:09 p.m., detectives from the Fairfield Police Department’s Special Operations Team conducted a probation search in the 400 block of Coot Lane in Suisun.

Detectives found over a thousand pieces of stolen mail and property from all over the Bay Area.

Officials were able to locate 24 confirmed victims of mail theft, commercial burglary, residential burglary, and vehicle thefts. It appears that the two suspects targeted residences in Fairfield, Suisun, Novato, Tiburon, Davis, West Sacramento, Sacramento, Stockton, Martinez, and Napa.

Detectives arrested Briana Morales, 38, and Emilio Varela, 29, of Suisun. Morales was already on probation for Identity Theft.

Some of the stolen mail contained personal information like credit card numbers and social security numbers.

The Fairfield Police Department wants to remind residents that mail theft is the most common gateway to identity theft. This can be prevented by picking up mail daily and placing a hold on mail delivery when going on vacation. There is also an increase in package theft from the porch areas during the Holiday Season.

Fairfield police ask residents to be vigilant and report any unusual activities in your neighborhood.
