SALINAS (KRON/BCN) — A 26-year-old man who allegedly attempted to steal a computer from a downtown Salinas business early Monday morning was taken into custody, police said.
Ethan Benoit was arrested on suspicion of burglary, police said.
At about 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a burglar alarm that activated at Giorgio’s Restaurant at 201 Main St., police said.
Responding officers went to the building and saw the gate open to Ticino’s Coffee Shop and Deli, another business at the building, according to police.
They also saw a BMX bike against a wall at a staircase that leads to a second-floor of the business and an open door at the top of the stairs, police said.
The officers almost sent a police K-9 unit to search the building when they heard the suspect call out to them and found a man later identified as Benoit inside the business, according to police.
Officers searched the rest of the building and found no other suspects inside, police said.
Benoit has been booked into Monterey County Jail where he is being held on $10,000 bail, according to online jail records.
