SISKIYOU CO., Calif. (KRON) – The McKinney Fire at Klamath National Park has burned over 60,392 acres, with 95% containment.

The fire, which started July 29, is located at Highway 96 and McKinney Creed Road, near the California-Oregon border. A portion of Highway 96 currently remains closed.

And the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s office announced a grisly discovery early Monday via Twitter — two bodies were found located in a vehicle in a driveway along Doggett Creek Road, off Highway 96.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for Siskiyou County. Multiple evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect for Siskiyou County.

On Saturday, Santa Rosa Fire Department (SRFD) sent engine 363 and a crew of four firefighters to support efforts to control the blaze in Shasta. The group headed up as part of a strike team that included Petaluma Fire, Napa Fire, Sonoma Valley Fire, and Sonoma County Fire District.

On Monday, the San Jose Fire Department announced on Twitter that its Strike Team 2309A was redeployed from the Oak Fire to the McKinney Fire. “Wishing all the boots on the ground safe operations and hoping for the best outcome for all the impacted communities,” read the tweet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
