Today a procession will be held on the way to the service of the Vacaville CHP motorcycle officer who was killed in a crash one week ago today.
KRON4’s Sara Stinson is at the Vaca Hills Chapel funeral home, where the procession to honor Officer Kirk Greiss will begin.
Hundreds of CHP officers will be there, and community members are encouraged to watch along the route to pay tribute as well.
The death of officer Greiss has been hard on this entire community.
He was in the middle of a traffic stop on I-80 west in Fairfield when 36-year-old Sean Walker crashed his pickup truck into him and the driver he was stopping.
49-year-old Jaime Manuel and Officer Greiss were taken the hospital where both of them were pronounced dead.
Walker has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving, as CHP says he was on his phone and speeding before the crash.
Greiss served the Vacaville community for 19 years patrolling on his motorcycle.
Today’s memorial procession will go to the Father’s House Church for a service that begins at 11 am.
Expect some traffic delays during the procession.
