MONTEREY (KRON) — Beachgoers in Monterey had a lot of unexpected visitors this week.

Millions of red crabs covered the shorelines. El Nino has brought plenty of crabs to the area because they tend to like warm water.

One climate expert said the layer of warm water is preventing nutrient-rich water from coming to the surface.

Squid fisherman have had a hard time finding squid this season because of the warm waters.

They said they are hoping to see more squid in Monterey next month when waters cool down.
