Milpitas police warn of spike in auto burglaries

Authorities are warning of a spike in the number of the auto burglaries in Milpitas.

According to the Milpitas Police Department, there have been 145 auto burglaries in the city since January 1.

In January alone, there were 88 auto burglaries — making it the highest month for auto burglaries in the past year.

Authorities say if the current trend continues, the city is projected to surpass last year’s total.

The majority of auto burglaries happened in the parking lots of retail shopping centers.

The shopping centers primarily affected are the following:

  • Ulfert’s Center
  • Milpitas Square
  • McCarthy Ranch
  • Great Mall of the Bay Area

In an effort to reduce the number of auto burglaries, the Mipitas Police Department will deploy7 extra officers at the affected shopping centers.
