Akon says he’s “very seriously” considering running for president in 2020.
In a recent interview with Newsweek, the hip-hop singer, songwriter and producer said while his platform isn’t in full fruition yet, he already knows who he’s picking as his running mate — Mark Zuckerberg for VP.
When asked how he feels about the current administration, he said, “I feel a lot more unsafe. I feel unempowered. Honestly, I feel it’s gonna be a fight. I feel like I should be always prepared for the unexpected.”
“I feel very uncomfortable,” he added. “And I feel a lot of Americans do; even some white Americans feel that way because they’re watching backlash of his decisions. It’s not what’s happening now, because it’s clear it’s creating a whole bunch of divide today. But I think tomorrow that impact is going to be so much more devastating.”
On his strategy for defeating Trump, Akon told Variety, “He’d be my only focus… at the end of the day, he is the strategy… every move he’s making is his personal opinion, his personal belief. I think as a president your moves should be what the people need or what the people deserve. That’s who you’re working for. You’re not working for yourself.”
