SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) – Maui is so overrun with tourists that hotels there are trying to limit the number of visitors with a new tax.

Hotels and short-term rentals can now charge a 3% surcharge which will stay in Maui.

The new surcharge is on top of the existing 10% hotel tax which goes back to the state of Hawaii.
