Restaurant accidentally serves customer bottle of wine worth $5,800

A restaurant in England says a customer was accidentally served a bottle of wine worth nearly $5,800.

The restaurant, Hawksmoor Manchester, said on Twitter that they hope the customer enjoyed their evening after being served the wine.

BBC reported the diners ordered a $330 bottle of Bordeaux.

The restaurant said the manager only realized the mistake after it happened.

It would seem the restaurant has more than recovered the value of the wine with free advertising. The original tweet has been retweeted more than 5,700 times and liked more than 33,000 times.

A restaurant spokeswoman says “it was a very busy night at the restaurant and a very simple mistake. A member of staff picked up the wrong bottle” of Bordeaux. The restaurant told the employee that “one-off mistakes happen” and added “we love you anyway.”

The report sparked a flurry of amused responses on Twitter, with many people asking for a table served by the same waiter and others praising Hawksmoor for its comments to its employee.

Tasting notes for Chateau le Pin Pomerol on note the wine’s deep ruby/plum/purple color and read: “A tremendous effort … an extraordinary perfume of creme de cassis, cherry liqueur, plums, licorice, caramel and sweet toast.”
