Undocumented immigrant accused of impregnating 11-year-old girl

A Phoenix man is behind bars, accused of getting an 11-year-old girl pregnant.

Police found out about this back in November, but the suspect was just arrested.

20-year-old Carlos Cobo-Perez is being held at the Lower Buckeye Jail in Phoenix.

He told police he knew he was seeing an 11-year-old girl.

Friends say they knew too, some even saying they were “in love.”

“I told him that’s crazy. I told him he should like try to get away from her because she’s small and he’s older.”

Just a few days ago, the girl’s family learned she is pregnant – about a month and a half along.

“I was working, and to be honest I wanted to leave work and destroy him, to be honest.”

Her stepdad said he had tried to keep Cobo-Perez from his family, but he kept coming around.

“He kept insisting. She an 11-year-old girl. He’s 20. Almost 21. But he said he already knew what he wanted. He got in her head, and she fell for it easily.”

According to the police report, back in November, the girl’s mom noticed her daughter had a hickey on her neck.

Police got involved and questioned Cobo-Perez, who admitted to kissing the girl and giving her the hickey.

The report says he told a detective he would end the relationship.

But five months later, the girl learned she was pregnant.

“I was mad. I wanted to take care of him myself, and the police said don’t get involved, you’re gonna get yourself in trouble.”

Cobo-Perez is charged with sexual conduct with a minor, and being held on a $150,000 cash bond.

We asked Phoenix police why Cobo-Perez wasn’t arrested last year, when he first admitted to giving the victim a hickey.

A spokesman said that matter is under internal investigation.

The spokesman is barred from comment “until it has been resolved.”
