A man was seriously injured in a Thursday morning shooting in Suffolk that may have been sparked by an altercation over Aretha Franklin.

Police said two men were having a “verbal altercation that turned physical” when one of the men pulled out a firearm and shot the other man. The incident took place at around 10:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Washington and Liberty streets.

An employee of a nearby business told 8News affiliate WVEC that he heard the two men were arguing over Aretha Franklin moments before the shooting occurred.
