Time Magazine named Oakland’s very own Ryan Coogler, as one of this year’s most influential people.

The famous director received the honor for his box-office hit, Black Panther, but his accomplishments don’t stop there.

Coogler set the tone for his career with his first feature-film Fruitvale Station, which chronicles the last 24 hours of Oscar Grant’s life.

He went on to direct Creed, a Rocky film series spin-off.

A few other Bay Area names who made the list were Warriors’ Kevin Durant, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Space X CEO, Elon Musk.
