Oakland police release body cam footage of fatal officer-involved shooting

The body cam footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting in March was released by the Oakland Police Departments Thursday.

On Mar. 6, Joshua Pawlik was fatally shot by police in the 900 block of 40th Street after he ignored verbal commands to take his hands off his weapon, officers say.

In a statement from OPD:

“The Oakland Police Department acknowledges that any officer-involved shooting is heartbreaking for all involved, and impacts our entire community. “

“The Oakland Police Department is committed to transparency and the sharing of information with our community when it does not jeopardize the integrity of an active criminal or administrative investigation.”

“By policy, every officer-involved shooting is investigated by the Department’s Internal Affairs Division. Although we have released the video, we are unable to discuss specific details related to this case due to the ongoing Internal Affairs investigation.
