Oakland Unified School District’s Teachers of the Year

The Oakland Unified School District has announced its “Teachers of the Year.”

And for the first time, they’re hailing not just one or two teachers – but three of them!

All three are being honored for their leadership and innovative teaching methods.

Micaela Morse teaches Kindergarten at International Community Elementary. It’s an English-Spanish immersion program which Micaela helped design. She’s described as calm – even in the midst of unexpected chaos.

At United for Success middle school, Cassandra Chen teaches 6th-grade math and science and 8th-grade algebra. She’s applauded for pushing herself and others towards continuous improvement.

At Oakland Technical High, Jah-Yee Woo teaches 11th-grade English and U.S. History. She helped to establish a Humanities curriculum. He’s described as making her hard work appear effortless.
