SANTA CLARA (KRON) — On Sunday, July 5, police in Santa Clara arrested a woman and a man for attempted bicycle theft.  Both of the suspects appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to Santa Clara University Campus Security, “officers observed a female suspect acting as a lookout, while a male suspect attempted to break a bicycle lock outside of the Malley Recreation Center. SCU Campus Security officers photographed the suspects before confronting them. Upon contact, the suspects fled on bicycles, but not the ones they were attempting to steal.”

Around 10:40 a.m. officers detained the female suspect as she rode the same bicycle used to flee the scene. Police say that during the interaction, the suspect appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of her backpack yielded a controlled substance, a loaded syringe of heroin and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Around 12:30 p.m. officers located the male suspect in the photograph on Lincoln Street and Lewis Street.  He too appeared under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
