BOARDMAN, OH (WKBN) – An Ohio mother is facing charges after police said she was involved in a drunken car crash with her children in the car.
Police said the crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday night on W. Western Reserve Drive at Glenwood Avenue in Boardman. The driver of one of the vehicles, 28-year-old Lucy McCarty, had run a red light and caused the crash, according to witnesses at the scene.
Police said McCarty smelled of alcohol and appeared confused as to what happened. She admitted to drinking “a couple” of alcohol beverages at a friend’s birthday party in North Lima, according to a police report.
Police said she failed a field sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol content of .201, well above the legal limit of .08.
She was arrested and charged with OVI (operating a vehicle while under the influence), failure to obey a traffic control device and endangering children.
Her children were picked up by a family member.
McCarty is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. August 14.
