LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. (WKRN) – A father accused of raping a 16-month-old boy in Lawrenceburg has been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s “Most Wanted” list.
Lawrenceburg police said Simon Dean Porter, who is wanted for aggravated child rape, is on the run and they are asking the public to be on the lookout for him.
“This case rips my heart out,” Lt. Blake Grooms with Lawrenceburg police said. “I can’t even express it. I’m not even a parent, but when someone tells me that a 16-month-old child has been maliciously and intentionally hurt, words cannot describe it.”
Officers reportedly became aware of the assault after they were notified of the boy’s severe injuries by doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.
According to Grooms, Porter implicated himself in the crime involving the young boy during a police interview.
“The little boy was hurt pretty bad,” Lt. Grooms said. “To the point of permanent damage for the rest of his life.”
The 33-year-old took off, according to Grooms, while police were gathering enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant.
“According to his wife, he took off and did not tell her where he was going. The last thing he told her [was] he was scared he was about to be arrested,” Grooms said.
Porter is 5 feet 9 inches tall, 260 pounds and has red hair and hazel eyes.
He is believed to be driving a green Chevy S-10 pickup truck with a red tailgate and possible Tennessee license plate 3G26Z9.
“I do consider him dangerous. Anyone who would hurt a child is dangerous,” Grooms said.
Porter has a previous arrest history for domestic assault and theft of property that dates back to 2006.
