SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — Help is on the way for San Francisco BART riders tired of broken escalators.The BART board of directors approved nearly $3 million for replacing obsolete parts in 12 of the most frequently broken escalators at six stations in San Francisco.
The funding will mainly be used to replace controllers that have been in operation in the escalators for the last 19 years.
“The existing escalator controllers make troubleshooting difficultand time-consuming for technicians,” BART staff wrote in a report to thedirectors.
“This is one of the biggest complaints that I get,” BART directorNick Josefowitz, who represents San Francisco, said today. “I think it’sterrific that we’re trying to deal with this problem.”
The $2.9 million contract was awarded to the Santa Ana-based Excelsior Elevator Corporation.
