Shark spotted at Alcatraz Island, preys on seal

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An unbelievable sighting occurred on Alcatraz Island Saturday where a great white shark had a pretty visible lunch.

A group of tourists witnessed an eight to ten foot shark rip a part of a seal carcass close to the dock. A director of a local shark conservation group said that this was the first known recorded sighting a great white shark attacking its prey in the area.

However, the risk of a shark attacking a swimmer is considered extremely low.
