APTOS (KRON) — A California-based a marine biologist captured a series of images showing several great white sharks circling his kayak during an outing at Seacliff State Beach.
Giancarlo Thomae was yards away from shore when he spotted the animals swimming around his kayak.
The shark sighting comes a day after another swimmer was attacked on the east coast.
The 68-year-old shark attack victim suffered wounds to his rib cage, lower leg, hip and both hands as he tried to fight off a shark in waist-deep water at around midday on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina.
At least 11 people have been attacked along the Carolinas coast this year, seven in North Carolina and four in South Carolina.
Tonight on KRON 4 News, watch Giancarlo Thomae describe the close encounter.
