UNION CITY (KRON) — A smoking brake underneath a BART train near the Union City station is causing major delays for riders tonight.
BART said via social media that when the report of smoke came in, riders were taken off the train.
We have a disabled train at Union City station. Riders were off boarded and the fire department responded because of reports of some sparks and smoke. We have resumed service through the area while single tracking. We are very sorry for the delays. https://t.co/zsgYBpZup9— SFBART (@SFBART) March 8, 2019
Alameda Fire responded to the scene, just north of the Union City BART station, and say firefighters did not spot flames when they arrived — just a smoldering brake drum.
BART is reporting the incident as an equipment issue.
It’s unclear how long trains on the Fremont line will be delayed.
