RICHMOND (KRON) — Police have identified the suspect who was arrested on suspicion of holding a woman captive and forcing her to live in a closet for a year as 35-year-old Eulogio Constantino-Sanchez.
Constantino-Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, rape, corporal injury, false imprisonment and conspiracy, according to Richmond police.
The victim was a woman from Nicaragua who Constantino-Sanchez and a male relative lured on Facebook into coming to the United States with the promise of a better life.
The woman was able to contact a U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent and report that she was forced to live in a closet against her will.
The agent contacted Richmond police detectives, who learned the woman was being sexually assaulted and physically abused on a daily basis, police said.
Police raided the home and found the woman, as well evidence to corroborate her statement.
Richmond police and the Department of Homeland Security are continuing a joint investigation into the case.
