VIDEO: 24 alleged gang members arrested in Contra Costa County

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (KRON) — An FBI task force arrested 24 alleged gang members and believe some may be involved with the freeway shootings that have plagued Contra Costa County, according to officials with the FBI.

24 alleged members of the deadly Norteño street gang were arrested on August 3 in Contra Costa County, officials said.

Authorities believe that among the 24 arrested are suspects freeway shooters.

Some of the alleged members are also believed to be gang leaders. The task force was able to connect those arrested to crimes that include murder, assault, weapons trafficking, drug sales and prostitution or pimping.

Authorities seized 18 firearms, large quantities of methamphetamine and heroin, two cars, a boat and $15,000 in illicit funds. Two illegal marijuana grows were also destroyed.

The searches and arrests were the result of an investigation initiated by the Concord Police Department in response to an increase in gang violence that began in 2015.
