VIDEO: San Francisco Muni employee goes on racist rant over parking space

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- New video sent into the KRON newsroom shows a San Francisco Muni employee going on a racist rant over a parking space on Monday on Powell Street.

The incident was caught on video next to the San Francisco Muni Kirkland Division office on Powell Street.

The video appears to show a woman parking downtown in an open parking spot, but a Muni who claims to have been waiting accuses the woman of stealing his space.

"I was waiting," the San Francisco Transportation Municipal Agency worker yelled from the driver seat of his vehicle. "You're just a n*****, that's all."

The man, who is white and is seen wearing an SFMTA uniform, later referred to the woman, who caught the incident on her cell phone camera, as a gang-banger.

"Racist, ignorant, MUNI bus driver gets mad at me for taking an open parking spot!!" Mayra Villarreal wrote on Facebook. "People like this make me sick!"

San Francisco MTA spokesman Paul Rose confirmed to KRON4 that the man is an employee with the agency.

"We just identified him and are taking immediate and corrective action," Rose said. Rose would not identify the man by name.

An SFMTA spokesperson told KRON the employee is not on leave but isn't driving any buses.

The woman who took the video, that has now gone viral, is a student at San Francisco State University. She is a business major.

Villarreal said she was on her way to work at Fisherman's Wharf on Monday morning when the incident happened.

"I just took out my video because I was scared…just for safety reasons," she said.

The video has been viewed more than 30,000 times on Facebook as of 8 p.m. Monday.
