Warriors championship celebrations shut down streets, BART station

OAKLAND (KRON) — Commuters should expect traffic delays through downtown Oakland on Wednesday morning as crowds continue to celebrate the Golden State Warriors’ NBA Championship.

Police said motorists should expect delays in the areas of 14th Street and Broadway, 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue and at other locations in East Oakland.

Several streets in downtown Oakland were closed to traffic Tuesday night after large crowds blocked streets and intersections to celebrate the team’s title-clinching Game 6 victory.

UPDATE 10:44 P.M. — BART is recovering from an earlier problem. 12th St. Oakland City Center has re-opened.


UPDATE 10:32 P.M. — Due to large crowds in downtown Oakland, lines 1, 1R, 11, 12, 14, 18, 20, 26, 31, 40, 51A, 72, 72M, 88, and NL are now being detoured away from the area until further notice. Refer to AC Transit’s planned detours for service information. Large crowds are also disrupting service in downtown Berkeley and AC Transit lines may not be running regular service in this area either.


OAKLAND (KRON) — The 12th Street Oakland City Center BART station has been shut down tonight because of crowds celebrating the Golden State Warriors’ NBA title.

BART officials announced the closure at 10 p.m. No other details about the closure were immediately available.

Video footage posted on social media shows numerous people blocking intersections along Broadway in downtown Oakland.

Police in Oakland responded to reports of gunshots fired at multiple locations throughout the city tonight in the wake of the Golden State Warriors’ series-clinching win against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game

6 of the NBA Finals.

Details about specific incidents and locations were not immediately available.
