The city of San Jose has now had a total of 42 fatal collisions this year following a near hit-and-run involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Saturday night.
Around 9:42 p.m. in the area of Capitol Expressway and Silver Creek Road, police received a call about a woman who was crossing the street being hit by a driver.
The driver has been identified as Ubaldo Montaras Munoz, a 39-year-old from San Jose.
Officials say Munoz was driving eastbound on Capitol Expressway when he hit the woman in the intersection.
Witnesses told authorities that Munoz attempted to flee the scene but the ‘good Samaritans’ who saw the accident were able to stop him.
According to authorities, the pedestrian had died following the accident and her identity has not been released at this time.
Munoz was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
Police say it does not appear that drugs and alcohol were involved.
