Police are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in San Jose overnight.
It happened just after 12:30 a.m. in the area of N. 10th and E. Santa Clara Street.
According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates the adult female victim was walking in the crosswalk, headed east on E. Santa Clara Street, when she was hit by a white van traveling southbound on N. 10th Street.
The van fled the scene without stopping. Sgt. Enrique Garcia with San Jose police says the van has no markings but is likely to have some damage.
“We know there is going to be damage to the right front quarter panel based on the impact with the victim but we have no idea who the suspect is, whether it’s a man or woman or if there was anyone else in the van,” the sergeant said.
The woman died at the scene. Her name has not been released at this time.
The suspect has not been identified.
“The person may be wanted for a crime or may have an outstanding warrant, or maybe they just committed a crime and were fleeing the scene, or were under the influence of drugs or alcohol or driving with a suspended license,” said Garcia.
This is the city’s fourth fatal collision and the third vehicle vs. pedestrian fatal crash of the year.
