The former girlfriend of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster says her injuries were not caused by him–and she can prove it, her attorney Stephanie Rickard said on Wednesday.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney charged Foster with domestic violence and assault weapons felonies.

This all stemmed from the alleged Feb. 11 incident, Ennis’ attorney said.

Ennis now says those charges were based on lies.

Here is the rest of the statement from Ennis’ attorney:

“(Foster) did not strike her, injure her or threaten her,” Rickard says. Ennis’ injuries were the result of a physical fight with another woman, and that Foster tried to end his relationship with Ennis after he learned of the fight. A video of that fight with another woman has been made available.

“She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would ‘trash his career,’” Rickard says. After she realized what she had done, she went back to the District Attorney’s Office and tried to recant what she had told the deputies, but the D.A. decided to file the charges anyway.

Ennis realizes the attention that this case is drawing from the media, especially given the recent scandals about domestic violence involving NFL players and the #MeToo movement, but that this case isn’t one of those. Ennis apologizes to everyone that may have been harmed in this case, especially Mr. Foster.
