The Portland Trail Blazers are heading to Oakland to take on the Golden State Warriors for Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
But for one Trail Blazer, he is coming home.
Damian Lillard, who has played in Portland since 2012, was born and raised in Oakland.
On Monday, Lillard reflected on coming to watch the Warriors play as a kid.
“I think that it’s a storybook moment, just for them, this being the last year playing at Oakland, me growing up here. I had season tickets a few seasons to come watch the Warriors play,” Lillard says. “You know it’s a special ending.”
Steph Curry also commented on Lillard coming back to the Bay Area and how Oakland has continued to be proud of him through his journey.
“I’m sure it’s definitely special for him. He obviously represents Oakland everywhere, an opportunity that he gets. Obviously, this is the last year at Oracle too so it’ll be special for him and his family, and growing up right down the street from, from Oracle,” Curry says. “Unfortunately, I don’t want it to be a happy ending for him, I want it to be for us.”
Game 1 tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Oracle Arena.
